The Chlamydia & Gonorrhea test is a molecular diagnostic nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) that uses transcription-mediated amplification to detect RNA from Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG). Northern Plains Laboratory is required by law to report positive results for this test to the North Dakota Health and Human Services. Please be aware that you may be contacted by NDHHS as part of disease surveillance.

A urine drug screen is a test that detects the presence of drugs or their metabolites in a urine sample. This screen will prove a positive or negative result for the following: amphetamine, barbiturate, benzodiazepine, cannabinoids, cocaine, and opiates.

The hepatitis C (HCV) antibody test (also known as the anti-HCV test) detects antibodies to the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the blood, indicating past or current infection with the virus. This is the preferred test for screening at risk individuals. If positive, a quantitative HCV NAAT will be performed to confirm a HCV infection.

The Iron and Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC) tests are blood tests used to evaluate iron levels in the body. Iron measures the amount of total iron in the blood. TIBC reflects how well transferrin, a protein that transports iron, can carry iron in the blood.

A liver function panel is a blood test used to assess the health and function of your liver by measuring the levels of various enzymes, proteins, and substances in the blood.

The syphilis test (RPR) is a blood test used to screen for syphilis antibodies, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. If positive, a RPR titer will be performed and the sample sent to ARUP Laboratory for confirmation TP-PA testing.

The thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test measures the level of TSH in the blood, which is produced by the pituitary gland and helps regulate thyroid hormone production. If TSH is below or above the age specific reference range, a Free T4 will be performed.

The total estradiol test measures the level of estradiol (E2), the primary form of estrogen in the body, which is produced mainly by the ovaries in females, in smaller amounts by the testes in males, and adrenal glands in both sexes.

The ferritin test measures the level of ferritin, a protein that stores iron in the body. It helps assess your body's iron reserves.

The folate test measures the level of folate (vitamin B9) in the blood, which is essential for red blood cell production, DNA synthesis, and overall cell health.

In women, it evaluates fertility, menstrual irregularities, or menopause status by assessing ovarian function. In men, It assesses testicular function and sperm production.

The gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) test measures the level of GGT in the blood. GGT is an enzyme found mainly in the liver and bile ducts, and is used mainly as a liver function marker.

The prolactin test measures the level of prolactin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that stimulates breast milk production after childbirth. In women, it is used to evaluate causes of irregular periods, infertility, or unexpected milk production. In men, it is used to investigate low testosterone, infertility or breast enlargement.

The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) screening test measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, in the blood.

The prothrombin time (PT) test measures how long it takes your blood to form a clot. It evaluates the activity of certain clotting factors that work to stop bleeding. Additionally, it is used to monitor Coumadin therapy, evaluate liver function, and assess vitamin K status.

A T4 (thyroxine) test is a blood test that helps diagnose thyroid conditions. T4 is a thyroid hormone, and too much or too little of it can indicate an issue with your thyroid.

The total testosterone test measures the overall level of testosterone, a hormone produced primarily in the testes in men and in smaller amounts by the ovaries and adrenal glands in women.

The free T3 test measures the level of triiodothyronine (T3) in the blood that is not bound to proteins, and is used to evaluate thyroid function.

The tuberculosis test is a blood test used to detect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB). It is used to detect latent TB infections, aid in diagnosis of active TB, and as an alternative to the tuberculin skin test.

The uric acid (UA) test measures the level of uric acid in blood, a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, which are substances found in certain foods and in body tissues. It is used to evaluate gout or risk of gout, assess kidney function, monitor certain medical conditions or treatments, and is often included as part of a metabolic evaluation.

The varicella zoster antibody test is a blood test that detects antibodies against the varicella-zoster virus, the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles. The test is used to determine immunity, diagnosis past infection, and investigate a recent exposure.

The Vitamin B12 test measures the level of Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) in the blood, which is essential for nerve function, red blood cell production, and DNA synthesis.

The Vitamin D test measures the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the blood, which is crucial for calcium absorption, bone health, and immune system function.
